The Cinema Eye Honors, which recognises artistry and craft in non-fiction filmmaking, announced its 2012 awards nominees last night in London.

The films competing for the top award, Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking, are The Arbor, The Interrupters, Nostalgia for the Light, Position Among the Stars, Project Nim and Senna.

In all, 33 films from 12 countries are nominated.


Seven films lead the pack with four nominations each: The Arbor, Dragonslayer, Hell and Back Again, The Interrupters, Nostalgia for the Light, Position Among the Stars and Senna.

The winners of the fifth annual awards will be announced Jan 11 at New York’s Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.

There are ten contenders for the Audience Choice prize: Buck, The Black Power Mixtape, Bill Cunningham New York, Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Give Up Tomorrow, The Interrupters, Tabloid, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Project Nim andSenna.

The Cinema Eye Co-Chairs are filmmakers Esther Robinson and AJ Schnack; other key organises are Nathan Truesdell, Sean Farnel, Andrea Meditch and Laura Poitras. Top documentary programmers are on the nominations committee.
