A24 has revealed the latest teaser from its anticipated awards hopeful that opens the AFI FEST this week (November 6).

Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain star in JC Chandor’s epic-looking drama set in a crime-ridden New York in 1981.

After lots of establishing dialogue the trailer ends with a voice-over bombshell from Isaac’s character, an ambitious immigrant and family man looking to take a greedy bite out of the Big Apple.

“When it feels scary to jump, that is exactly when you jump,” he says. “Otherwise you end up staying in the same place your whole life.”

There is the sound of a gun being cocked, and then:

“And that I cannot do.”

Phew. If you won’t be the festival opening night you’ll have to wait until the US release on December 31. FilmNation handles international sales and A Most Violent Year is set to open in the UK on January 23, 2015.
