BFI to re-release Orson Welles’ last Hollywood feature next month.

The BFI has released a newly cut trailer for Orson Welles classic Touch Of Evil, ahead of a re-release of the crime thriller on July 10.

The BFI is bringing the film back to screens to mark the centenary of Orson Welles’ birth (1915–1985).

Touch Of Evil, which was also written by and starred Welles, was his last Hollywood feature before he was banished by the studios.

The 1958 film noir also stars Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh, and is a story of murder, kidnapping, and police corruption in a Mexican border town.

The BFI is re-releasing the 1998 version, which was re-edited and restored 40 years after the original release based on a 58-page memo from Welles that the Citizen Kane star wrote after seeing the original cut by Universal, with which he was not satisfied.

The BFI is releasing the film in partnership with Universal, following recent re-releases with Warner Bros of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 and Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, which has now taken more than $1m in UK cinemas.
