Champers - and pants - for charity

Screen was the top bidder on a case of champagne, but Shots beat us to the more intriguing offer of a dinner with a man wearing only his pants

Last night there was a fabulous party and auction organised by The Location Guide, Envy, Getty Images, Audio Network, FilmLight, Framepool and the APA, to raise money for Red Cross aid to Japan.

Congrats to the organisers for putting on a fun night that raised a total of £12,506 for a great cause.

I was the lucky bidder on a case of Laurent Perrier Champagne, generously donated by Framepool.

I was certainly priced out of bidding for the most coveted item of the evening, a limited edition Christian Dior Red Sapphire and Diamond watch, which had been generously donated by Sharon Stone herself. The watch fetched more than £4,000 (still a bargain for the rare item!).

Not fetching quite as much money, but certainly creating a stir in his own right was Phil McCluney [pictured, fully clothed], who auctioned off a dinner with himself at Andrew Edmunds. So far, so normal – but McCluney (a producer at The Mill London) is willing to attend the dinner in his pants. He drew some catcalls in the room when he bravely stripped down to some skimpy pink briefs to give the bidders a preview of what they get for their money. The lucky bidder for Phil was Hayley Sercombe, who works for Screen’s sister advertising magazine Shots. We can’t wait to hear more from Hayley about what colour pants will be on display at dinner.

Other donated auction items included private screening at Framestore, dining at Century Club and Charlotte Street Hotel, a framed Marilyn Monroe print from the Getty Gallery, a lifesized cutout of Gene Simmons, private yoga sessions, fish pedicures, Laila Ali’s boxing shorts, a signed poster from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and a hamper full of new music.

As a side note, that terrace and top-floor space at Envy on Foley Street was a fantastic place for a party. We want to come back in the summer!
