Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Heavy Metal Parking Lot

Here’s one to make you feel old – it’s the 25th anniversary of the cult hit short film Heavy Metal Parking Lot. This is John Heyn and Jeff Krulik’s influential and much-loved short documentary shot of fans at a 1986 Judas Priest and Dokken concert in Maryland. Those teenagers rocking, cursing and chugging Budweiser are likely grey-haired parents by now.

Worringly, it reminds me a little bit of my own high school parking lot (sorry, Northwest Guilford Vikings). But even if you can’t relate to the mullets, it’s a fantastic slice of Americana, ‘80s fashion, teenage joy, and enduring passion for rock and roll.

In honour of the anniversary, SnagFilms.com is offering Heavy Metal Parking Lot and two follow-ups for free streaming.

Rock on.
