Joaquin Phoenix. As Doc Sportello. In Paul Thomas Anderson’s take on the Thomas Pynchon novel. Oh come on. Does it get any better?

We’re about to find out. Anderson’s 1970-set adaptation of the trippy LA mystery/allegory receives its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 4.

Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Eric Roberts, Maya Rudolph and Martin Short are just some of the talent also on show.

Warner Bros will release the film in the US in December.
