Kicking around for a Dreams cast
Some lucky kid will get a big break with Theatre of Dreams.
The film, set to shoot in Manchester this summer, is a fictional coming-of-age story about Manchester United’s famed manager Sir Matt Busby helping an 11-year-old boy fulfill his footballing dreams.
An online audition process is now underway (through May 18), searching for boys aged 8-12 with football or acting skills (or both!). Audition videos can be uploaded at http://todmovie.com and casting director Irene Lamb is scouting.
Brian Cox will play Busby, with Anne Reid as his wife and Natascha McElhone as the young footballer’s mum. David Scheinmann (The West Wittering Affair) will direct. Producers are Bill and Ben Productions, Justin Peyton and Manuela Noble.
It’s the second project this year inspired by Busby – David Tennant and Dougray Scott recently starred in United, about the 1958 air disaster involving the Busby Babes.
Scheinmann says: “Theatre of Dreams is a funny and touching family feature – a Billy Elliot meets Bend it Like Beckham – set to capture the hearts and minds of audiences around the world. We’re on a nationwide search to find the film’s young star and in keeping with the theme, our online audition process provides an equal opportunity for all worthy talent to follow their dreams.”
