Put a little blue into your life with Global Smurfs Day.

With just a couple of months to go before the release of The Smurfs, June 25 has been designated Global Smurfs Day in celebration of the birthday of Smurfs creator Peyo.

Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures will co-ordinate Smurf-related events across the globe in cities such as Brussels, Moscow and London in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Records™ title for, take a deep breath, “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour period in Multiple Venues”.

Now as serious journalists here at Screen, being pictured in nothing but white pants and a blue painted body probably wouldn’t help our careers. However, if you’re interested in Smurfing it up, a Smurfs Experience will be held in London from 1.30pm on June 25 at The O2 as it is turned into…wait for it…The “O-Blue” for the day. To register your interest, visit http://www.facebook.com/SmurfMovieUK for more information.

Other events on Global Smurfs Day include the Spanish village of Júzcar being painted blue for the day, ‘life-size’ (7 ½ inches tall if you were wondering) Smurf figurines occupying the Trocadero Terrace in Paris, among other places, and a family event in New York’s South Street Seaport, christened “Smurf Street Blueport” for the day.

Neil Patrick Harris can do no wrong in my eyes, so while I might not see you at The “O-Blue”, we may well run into each other on August 10 when The Smurfs is released in the UK & Ireland.
