CineEurope is a convention where the most common sight is old white guys eating free nachos, not world-class rappers singing the praises of marijuana.

That all changed tonight when DreamWorks Animation and Fox International brought in Snoop Dogg to perform in support of animated family feature Turbo. Snoop is among the voice cast and also performs an original song for the film. His fellow cast members Samuel L Jackson, Michael Pena and Ryan Reynolds also came to Barcelona in support of the film. Jackson even introduced Snoop’s set at the Fox party.

Yes, it was a bit jarring to see images of animated snails while the rapper performed hits like Drop It Like It’s Hot and Gin and Juice, but the rapper himself seemed to be enjoying himself thoroughly during the eight-song set. Snoop performed a little Akon ditty called ‘I Wanna Fuck You’ (with some enthusiastic stripper moves by his backing dancers) while laughing that Turbo is a “kids film…but we won’t have kids if we don’t have love.” (He did warn the parents in the room to cover their kids’ ears.)

Big ups to the Fox brass for not playing it safe and bringing in Snoop to liven up CineEurope…although they might have been cringing when he signed off his performance by telling the surprised — but entertained — exhibitors in the crowd: “Smoke weed, motherfuckers!”
