When Danish actress-writer-director Anne-Grethe Bjarup Riis’ feature debut, This Life (aka The Hvidsten Group/Hvidsten-Gruppen) is released on DVD on Aug 20, the first disc will arrive at the Hvidsten Inn near Randers in Jutland by … parachute.

Guests at the inn include Bjarup Riis, the 11-member cast with lead actors Jens Jørn Spottag and Bodil Jørgensen, and Danish producer Regner Grasten, also celebrating the film has now exceeded 765,000 admissions domestically.

An experienced parachutist from Centre Q in Aalborg will jump in a parachute identical to the military model allied paratrooper agents used in 1944 to enter Nazi-occupied Denmark – and which is not so easy to manoeuver.

On landing they would have been received by Danish resistance, the Hvidsten-Group, set up in Match 1943 by owner of the inn, Marius Fiil, his wife and cook, Gudrun, with family and neighbours.

After a year of picking up paratroopers, weapons and explosives from the Royal Air Force, their identities were disclosed to the Gestapo by a captured British agent, under torture, and they were all arrested.

On June 26, 1944, Fiil, his son and son-in-law, with five others, were sentenced to death; his two daughters were sent to prison, one for life.

A record number of 90,000 DVDs has been preordered by retailers.
