Binns bikes for charity with the Picturehouse Cinemas team planning 1,270 miles of cycling.

Staff from Picturehouse Cinemas are cycling to each of the country’s 20 Picturehouse venues to raise money for Plan UK, a charity which helps families in 50 of the world’s poorest countries.

Picturehouse director of programming and acquisitions Clare Binns - a regular London cyclist often seen at screenings with her helmet in hand - helped kick off the project today with the first leg of the relay from the Belmont in Aberdeen to the Cameo in Edinburgh – 142 miles. The 1,270-mile route will end in Exeter on September 13. That sounds even more exhausting than laps up and down the Croisette. Thank goodness they had a fry up before setting off from Belmont.

Picturehouse has been supporting Plan UK for the past four years, working with water and sanitation projects in Niger.

With the last fundraising weekend for the group raising £15,000, the aim this year is to double it to £30,000. Cinema City’s individual target is £1,500, of which they hope to raise £800 through Mr Shorthose’s bike ride.
