The trailer for Lars von Trier’s Melancholia launched online today.
Next to nothing has been released about the film’s subject or plot. Here is a snippet from the film’s UK distributor Artificial Eye:
“Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgård) are celebrating their marriage at a sumptuous party in the home of her sister (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and brother-in-law (Kiefer Sutherland). Meanwhile, the planet, Melancholia, is heading towards Earth… MELANCHOLIA is a psychological disaster movie from director Lars von Trier.”
We do know that Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland star with Alexander Skarsgård (son of Stellan), Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård, Udo Kier and Jesper Christensen. Some European release dates have been set, with Artificial Eye releasing in the UK on July 1. Denmark gets the first general release on May 26.
