Scottish crowdsourced documentary We Are Northern Lights will screen in five remote communities in Scotland via mobile cinema Screen Machine.

After receiving numerous requests on its website for screenings in hard to reach communities, the team behind Scottish crowdsourced feature film We Are Northern Lights have decided to take matters into their own hands and embark on a road trip of the Highlands and the West Coast of Scotland.

Kicking off in June, the “national film portrait” will be shown in Lochcarron, Bettyhill, Lochinver, Lairg and the Isle of Eigg in Scotland, via 80 seat mobile cinema Screen Machine, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

Led by creative director Nick Higgins, the film itself began as part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012, with Scottish people being asked to submit their unique perspectives on film.

The team are now hoping to encourage those rural communities to make their own videos about their lives for the next stage of the Northern Lights national documentary project, with a Flip Video Camera being distributed at each of the five screenings.

The cameras will then be returned to Northern Lights and the resulting footage will be shared and showcased online and at events during 2014.
