The Letter takes top prize in Cannes Cinéfondation

The Cannes Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury, presided over by Michel Gondry, awarded their prizes on Friday evening to three films chosen from 1,600 submissions.

Comprised of student films from Asia, the US and Europe, the awards are as follows: First prize to Germany’s The Letter by Doroteya Droumeva, second prize to Drari from France’s Kamal Lazraq and third prize to Fly By Night from South Korea’s Son Tai-gyum.

The prizes come with a purse of Euros 15,000, Euros 11,250 and Euros 7,500 respectively.

In making the announcement, the festival noted that the Cinéfondation selection has showcased student films by directors who are present at Cannes this year with feature films including Frederikke Aspöck (Labrador), Catalin Mitulescu (Loverboy), Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra (Trabalhar Cansa), Roland Edzard (La fin du silence), Vimukthi Jayasundara (Chatrak) and Hagar Ben Asher (The Slut).
