New Police Story, starring and produced by Jackie Chan, beatTom Hanks vehicle The Terminal to thetop spot at the Hong Kong box office, grossing US$1,263,166 from 58 screens inits first six days on release.

Produced by JCEMovies, Chan's joint venture with local tycoon Albert Yeung, the film has beenlauded as a return to form for the Hong Kong superstar. Directed by Benny Chan(no relation), the film also stars Charlie Young as Chan's love interest and ahost of young idols including Nicholas Tse, Daniel Wu and Charlene Choi.

Three films openedon Wednesday, September 29 to take advantage of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Ofthese, Wong Kar Wai's 2046 scoredhighest with US$169,308 from 38 screens for third place in the chart.
