Hong Kong conglomerate New WorldGroup, which is owned by Media 8 Entertainment investor Henry Cheng, is to stepinto film production in Chinawith PK.com to be directed byBeijing-based filmmaker Xiao Jiang (Electric Shadows). Hong Kongidol Jaycee Chan, son of action star Jackie Chan, and Taiwanese heartthrob ChenBo-lin will head the cast ofthe film.

Budgeted at $3m, the film is co-produced by BeijingForbidden City Film and Beijing Jindun Xintong Film and TV Production. JindunXintong is the film and TV production wing of BeijingXintong Media and Cultural Investment Co, which isowned by Hong Kong's New World Group.Scheduledto start shooting on March 10, the film is a contemporary coming-of-age storywith suspense elements about a young Chinese man who finds his super-ego on theinternet.

According to its producer Yennie Hao, the film is aimed at a younger audience and its storypartly reflects the internet-indulging youth in China. The film is also backed by Sina.com, China's largest portalsite.

The film will also be Beijing-based Xiao Jiang'ssecond feature film. Her first film, ElectricShadows, was selected for both the Torontoand Rotterdam film festivals.
