Johnnie To and Wai Ka-fai's Running On Karma has been selected as Hong Kong's official entryfor the best foreign-language film category of next year's Academy Awards

The decision was announced by Crucindo Hung, chairman of theFederation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong, who praised the film forcombining elements of mainstream entertainment with an exploration of Buddhistthought

The film, which stars Andy Lau as a Buddhist monk turnedbodybuilder, was a big hit last year in Hong Kong, grossing HK$26 3m It was also a big winner at the Hong KongFilm Awards this April, scooping best film, best screenplay and best actor forLau

Meanwhile the federation also announced that three filmswill represent Hong Kong at the 49th Asian Pacific Film Festival - Running On Karma, UniverseEntertainment's One Nite In Mongkokand Media Asia's Infernal Affairs II The festival will take place September 21-25in Fukuoka, Japan
