Distributor Hopscotch has taken all Australian rights toWong Kar Wai's 2046 fromFortissimo Film Sales.

Hopscotch managing director Troy Lum plans to release whathe calls the "scifiesque film" later this year or early next. Lumreleased Wong's previous film In The Mood For Love while he was still working at Dendy.

"It did reasonably well and grossed about A$600,000. Wehave a bigger audience base to draw from this time around. I also think that 2046 is also a passionate film but in a more accessibleway."

Other films on Hopscotch's slate include thedocumentaries Touching The Void, whichclaimed the ninth spot in the chart when it opened last weekend on only 37screens, and Fahrenheit 9/11,which opens on July 29 on 80 screens.
