Jessica Hausner's psychological thriller Hotelwas the big winner at this year's Diagonale - Festival of Austrian Cinemapicking up the Euros 25,000 Diagonale Grand Prix and the Euros 11,000 ThomasPluch Screenplay Prize.

Hotel was shown at theDiagonale as an Austrian premiere and has been re-edited since it wasoriginally presented in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes FilmFestival last year. The film will now be released by Filmladen in Austria onApril 1.

Other prizes included the Diagonale Prize forInnovative Cinema for Gerhard Friedl's documentary Hat Wolff von AmerongenKonkursdelikte Begangen', the Association of Film & Video Editing'sPrize for "outstanding artistic film montage" to Denise Vindevogelfor her work on Darwin's Nightmare and the Austrian Association ofCinematographers (AAC) prize for best camerawork to Johannes Hammel and RafaelOrtega for Fridolin Schoenwiese's documentary Volver La Vista.

The Diagonale's new management of Birgit Flos,Robert Buchschwenter and Georg Tillner reported that the admissions of 25,000at this year's festival was on a par with the record year of 1993.
