Producer Gale Anne Hurd will receive the first career achievement award from the Women's International Film & Television Showcase (The WIFTS) which is holding its first event in Los Angeles from Dec 4-7.

The award will be presented on the final night of the four-day showcase which will present ten films from eight countries and will present awards for best female director, best female cinematographer, best film, pre-eminent breakout role, audience favourite and other honorary awards.

'Gale Anne Hurd has been one of the most innovative and respected producers in the entertainment industry,' commented The WIFTS co-founders Craig Prater and Elspeth Tavares. 'Her films have generated billions of dollars and entertained audiences around the world as well as earning Oscar nominations and many awards.'

'Women have always played a major role in the entertainment industry, and I am honored to be the recipient of the first Career Achievement Award from a new Showcase that specifically honors women in our industry,' said Hurd. 'I wish the Showcase great success.'

Hurd's recent credits include summer hit The Incredible Hulk and the upcoming Punisher: War Zone. Her hits include the Terminator films, Aliens and The Abyss.
