IFC Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to Lynn Shelton's My Effortless Brilliance, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier in the year.

The film will go out through IFC's VOD platform Festival Direct in August and will screen as part of Rooftop Films in New York on August 1.

'Films like My Effortless Brilliance are why Festival Direct was created,' IFC president Jonathan Sehring said. 'With the shifting marketplace, a film as nuanced and beautifully directed might not have the opportunity to find its audience.'

Shelton co-wrote the story of a novelist who visits his former best friend in an effort to revive the relationship and winds up having a booze-soaked weekend. Sean Nelson, Basil Harris and Calvin Reeder star.

IFC's manager of acquisitions and production Jeff Deutchman brokered the deal with Shelton, who recently wrapped production on Humpday, which also examines male bonding.
