IFC Films, the domestic theatrical releasing division of the Independent Film Channel's IFC Entertainment, has acquired North American distribution rights to its fourth film - David and Laurie Gwen Shapiro's documentary Keep The River On Your Right: A Modern Cannibal Tale - from New York-based Next Wave Films, itself a division of IFC Entertainment.

The film is the story of Tobias Schneebaum, a 78 year-old artist and author who in 1955 went into the Peruvian jungle and went missing. Seven months later, he emerged from the jungle saying that he had been adopted by a local tribe and participated in a hunting raid which ended in killing and cannibalism.

IFC, which is run by senior vice president of marketing and distribution Bob Berney, will release the film domestically in March 2001. It screened at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival in April and the Toronto Film Festival in September among others.

The brother/sister team of David and Laurie Gwen Shapiro produced and directed the film which is produced by Next Wave's Peter Broderick.
