IFC Films has acquired US rights to Stuart Hazeldine’s psychological thriller Exam, which UK-based Independent has licensed to a number of territories ahead of its market screening here.

Hazeldine wrote, directed and produced the BATFA nominated film about a high-stakes job application involving eight candidates. Jimi Mistry, Colin Salmon, Luke Mably and Nathalie Cox are among the cast.

IFC will release Exam later in the year through its Festival Direct VOD label after Lizzie Nastro negotiated the US deal with WME Global’s Alexis Garcia.

Meanwhile Independent has licensed rights to South Korea (SY Comad), Japan (The Klockworx Company), Hong Kong (Lark Films Distribution), CIS (CP Digital), Greece (Seven Group), Middle East (Shooting Stars), and Turkey (Film Pop Filmcilik). As previously announced Sony will distribute in the UK.

“In recent years IFC Films has earned a reputation for selecting the best British independent films and bringing them to North American audiences and we are thrilled to be one of their chosen few this year,” Hazeldine, who produced with Gareth Unwin, said.
