AFM top brass confirmed on Thursday (8) they are exploring a possible relocation of the event into the L.A. LIVE Downtown district for 2013.

The event will remain at the Loews in Santa Monica for the next two years and talks with Loews are ongoing.

According to a press release issued by the Independent Film & Television Alliance (IFTA), a move Downtown would reduce exhibition and hotel costs for participants, improve showcase opportunities and offer a greater variety of entertainment options.

The release went on to say that all theatres and screening rooms would be within a five-minute walk from the market.

The Regal Cinemas has an 800 stadium-seat premiere screen and the Nokia Theatre can accommodate premieres for 7,000.

By 2014 IFTA estimates there will be more hotel rooms in the L.A. LIVE district than there are “within miles of the Loews.”
