IMAX Corp and Chinese property developer Sailun Real EstateDevelopment Co have signed an agreement that will see the installation of a newIMAX MPX theatre system in a retail and leisure centre in Kunming, YunnanProvince, China.

The facility will be the entertainment anchor of Sailun'smassive $310m Kunming Shuncheng Mall project.

In a statement, IMAX co-CEOs and co-chairs Richard Gelfondand Brad Wechsler said the new deal is indicative of the fast growth of theexhibition business in China, IMAX's second-largest market.

"Experience has demonstrated that, when an IMAX theatreopens in an international market, it typically generates greater brandawareness and drives additional theatre signings, and we believe IMAX is poisedfor accelerated growth in China."

There are currently six IMAX theatres operating in thecountry, with a further 19, including the new facility in Kunming, scheduled toopen within the next three years.
