IMAX Corp and Nanjing Deji Plaza Co, based in the Chinese city of Nanjing, have signed an agreement that will see an IMAX cinema installed in the new Deji Plaza Mall shopping complex.

The cinema, which will be capable of playing both IMAX 2D and 3D pictures, will be part of what will be the largest multiplex in Jiangsu province. There are currently 12 IMAX cinemas in operation in China with a further 13 set to open by 2010.

'China's IMAX network is expanding in both commercial and institutional markets,' said IMAX co-CEOs and co-chairmen Richard Gelfond and Bradley Wechsler in a statement. 'We believe that participating in the city's largest entertainment and retail development with a prominent developer such as the Deji Plaza Co, is an effective way to introduce the IMAX brand to consumers in Nanjing.'

'The IMAX brand is recognized by consumers in many countries worldwide as the premiere way to experience cinema and its universal appeal, combined with the ability to show Hollywood movies in a unique and powerful way, makes the IMAX theatre an anchor attraction that will draw more people out of their homes and into the new Deji Plaza Mall,' added Zeng Wenwen, general manager ofNanjing Deji Plaza Co.
