The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button dominates the international chart this week, crossing the $100m mark internationally and falling off just 6% to take $30.5m over the February 13-15 weekend. With Warner Bros distributing in 49 markets, David Fincher's Oscar contender now stands at $119.6m from eight weeks on release and should soon outperform its domestic tally of $122.2m.
The highest new entry, debuting at number five, was Paramount Pictures International's Friday The 13th, which was released day-and-date with North America in 20 territories, including Spain and the UK, where it took $943,000 and $1.7m respectively. Internationally, the film performed well on its opening weekend, though it did not echo its domestic success, where it broke horror genre records for an opening weekend. Playing on 2,166 screens internationally, it took $9.5m for a screen average of $4,400.
Turkey's Recep Ivedik 2 was the highest non-US debut at number six on the chart. The comedy sequel opened in four territories, where it took $8.3m from 483 screens over the three-day weekend and notched the highest average of the week at $17,200 per screen. Its German tally was particularly impressive at $1.7m from just 75 screens and a high screen average of more than $23,000.
New Line International's He's Just Not That Into You enjoyed a 328% increase in weekend business, thanks to openings in 12 new markets. Key launches included Australia where the film was placed first with a $3m three-day haul from 253 screens, a $12,000 average, and France and Germany where it took $2m and $2.1m respectively. The romantic comedy, which features Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck and Scarlett Johansson, took $13.5m from 2,237, bringing its cumulative gross to $20.3m.
Although no longer in the chart, PPI's Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa passed the $400m marker after it logged $937,000 from 1,539 screens in 63 territories.
