United Artists' JeepersCreepers 2 ruled over the long LaborDay weekend, opening number one on an estimated $18.5m as the summer seasonofficially ended with a flourish and four titles passed $100m.

The top 12 films grossed anestimated $101.2m, up 11% on the same period last year and the third successiveweekend rise.

Overall the industry grossedan estimated $3.87bn summer total from early May to Labor Day, trumping 2002'srecord gross by around 2%. However higher tickets prices mean the actual numberof tickets sold fell by around 2%.

S.W.A.T. dropped one place to third but Columbia executiveswill have no complaints after it added $10.5m for $102.4m in its fourth weekand Charlie's Angels: Full Throttlealso crossed $100m.

Universal/Spyglass' Seabiscuit climbed one to seventh, adding $8.2m in its sixthweek for $103.7m.

Paramount's "re-released" TheItalian Job went out on 1,964 sitesthis weekend, climbing 28 places to 12th and adding $3.8m for a $100.7m totalafter 14 weeks.

New Line's dethroned horrorfilm Freddy Vs Jason plummetedsix places to seventh and grossed $8.1m for a surprisingly good $73.4m cumulativescore in its third week.

Universal's AmericanWedding fell two to 11th but isnearing $100m after grossing $4.5m for $97.4m in its fifth week.

The autumn session getsunderway next weekend with Fox's supernatural mystery The Order, starring Heath Ledger; Paramount's comedy DickieRoberts: Former Child Star, starring David Spade; and Miramax's award-winningaction comedy Shaolin Soccer,which stars Stephen Chow.
