Academy has recognised Jerusalem Film Festival as an official body authorised to qualify short films for the Short Film Awards category.

Jerusalem Film Festival has been recognised by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as an official body authorised to qualify short films for the Short Film Awards category.

As of 2015, films that have won awards in the festival’s Van Leer Israeli Short Film Competition will be eligible for consideration at the Oscars. It marks the first time the Academy has officially recognised an Israeli festival.

Noa Regev, director of the Jerusalem Cinematheque and the Jerusalem Film Festival, commented: “We would like to thank members of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their recognition of the Jerusalem Film Festival and are delighted with the upcoming collaboration that will officially launch in July 2015. The Academy’s decision only further highlights the importance and international status of the Jerusalem Film Festival, placing it on par with the world’s most important film festivals.”

The festival’s 32nd edition takes place July 9-19, 2015.
