Following its mighty opening day last Wednesday (27), A VeryLong Engagement remainedtop throughout the French holiday weekend as it grossed an estimated $8.7m(Euros6.8m) through Warner Bros Pictures International and drew 1.1millionadmissions.

The film, co-produced by Warner Bros France, TapiocaFilms and TF1 Films Production, went out on roughly 700 prints.

The wartime epic stars Audrey Tatou and was directed by JeannePierre Jeunet. Based on the novel by Sebastien Japrisot, it tells the story ofa woman's search for her fiance who went missing after a trench attack in thefirst world war.

The strong weekend is expected to continue as Monday is a publicholiday in France.

The openingresults were roughly 50% ahead of Jeunet's last release Amelie, and on a par with Star Wars EpisodeII - Attack Of The Clones, Ocean's Eleven, Unbreakable, Matrix, and The World Is Not Enough.
