CEO Bill Block [pictured] announced on Wednesday [16] that the executive had joined QED International in the newly created role of president of worldwide marketing and acquisitions.

Hegeman, a genre specialist who recently produced QED’s upcoming Haunt, will oversee the two departments as well as all genre productions. He reunites with Block, with whom he worked previously as president of worldwide marketing at Artisan Entertainment.

He previously served as chief marketing officer at New Regency Productions, where he worked closely with Fox on such films as In Time, Marley And Me, and Alvin And The Chipmunks.

Prior to that he served as COO at Fox Atomic and president of worldwide marketing at Lionsgate. Earlier appointments encompass marketing and distribution roles at Distant Corners Entertainment, Revolution Studios, MGM/UA, Orion Pictures and Orion Classics.

QED International has completed principal photography on the Arnold Schwarzenegger action drama Ten, rom-com Fading Gigolo directed by John Turturro and starring Turturro and Woody Allen and horror film Haunt.

“We’re taking significant steps to establish QED as a leading provider of big-screen commercial entertainment that can engage audiences on a worldwide basis,” said Block, “and John is the ideal person to help us take advantage of new opportunities which the market presents.”

Hegeman said QED’s slate was “an exciting mix of genres, all featuring filmmakers with a unique voice and vision.” He added: “As QED looks to acquire more properties, we want to be in business with creative talent as early as possible and help get their vision to the big screen, whether that vision originates with comics, games, online content or finished films.”
