SingerKatie Melua will be the lead artist on the soundtrack to Faintheart, the MySpace community-driven feature film.

Her new song Toy Collection was written especially for the film. Mike Batt (Watership Down) will serve as composer for the movie.

MySpace users will be able to vote for a track by an unsigned musician to also be on the soundtrack. Voting is now open for the five original shortlisted tracks (selected by director Vito Rocco and Vertigo Films' music supervisor Lol Hammond) at uk.myspace.com/faintheartthemovie. The finalists are Eastern Front, Dennison String Quartet, Frensham Records, Modern Eulogy and Miss Misery.

Multi-platinum selling singer Melua said: 'When I saw the film I immediately wanted to contribute to it.'

Dom Cook, director of marketing and content at MySpace UK, added: 'MySpace has helped launch the careers of hundreds of musicians and with more than 10 million artists and bands using the site it's a fantastic place to discover new talent. I can't wait to see who our users choose to feature on Faintheart.'

Vito Rocco, director of Faintheart, says: 'We had some fantastic entries. These five bands have a distinct sound which suit the tone of Faintheart brilliantly. They're funny, touching and original. '

Rocco directs the comedy set in the world of Viking re-enactments, which won $2m in funding as winner of the MySpace MyMovieMashUp contest. In addition to MySpace, backers are Vertigo Films, Film4, the UK Film Council, Slingshot and Screen WM.
