Germany's Kinowelt has sold another tranche of titles to German TV, this time to cable station NBC Europe which plans to run them in prime-time slots, replacing its Tonight Show and Late Night With Conan O'Brian.

Lead-in for the feature package which includes titles such as Sphere, Executive Decision, A Hard Day's Night and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, will be NBC Europe's popular teenage internet show GIGA, which runs for five hours during the afternoon. Helmut Keiser, managing director of NBC Europe's majority shareholder DFA, said that viewing patterns indicate a strong interest in prime-time features among GIGA's target audience of 14-29 year-olds.

The deal, which requires Kinowelt to deliver up to 400 films a year to NBC Europe, follows the sale of a package of Warner titles to German state broadcaster ZDF (ScreenDaily, November 7).

NBC Europe plans to aggressively promote the films by featuring web-sites related to the titles on GIGA. The cable station is currently available to 16.4 million households in Germany and can also be received in Austria and Switzerland.
