Leading Korean exhibitor CJ CGV has appointed Charles Kim as CEO, replacing Park Dong-ho who has been moved up in position to sister company CJ Foodville, a family restaurant chain with global ambitions.

Kim was previously chief operating officer of CJ Homeshopping, which has recently had a successful launch in China. A graduate of Pusan National University 's English department, Kim started working at CJ affiliate Samsung Corp in 1984.

Parent company CJ Corp is carrying out a series of executive movements, promoting 31 execs in rank or to other businesses within the group, with an emphasis on taking the conglomerate global.

CJ CGV opened Korea 's first multiplex in 1998 and currently operates 343 screens in 43 theatres. The exhibitor states it has pulled in 100 million admissions in the past seven years.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary last year, the company opened its first China multiplex in October - the six-screen, five-star Shanghai CGV.

CGV also previously announced plans to open a cinema in Los Angeles to focus on Korean releases, but not necessarily only on ethnic Korean audiences. The company says the cinema will open within the year.
