Rob Zombie is preparing to write and direct a sequel to his breakoutdebut feature House Of 1,000 Corpses for Lions Gate Films, which wants to lay the foundations fora cult franchise.

The original House of 1,000 Corpses, which centres on a couple that stumble upona family of psychotics, was released through Lions Gate on April 11 and hasgrossed more than $11m. Zombie is a Grammy-nominated hard rock star and MTVvideo award winner.

The Firm's Beau Flynn willproduce the sequel, which hoping to start shooting this autumn, along withZombie's long time manager Andy Gould, also of The Firm. Lions Gate's presidentof production Michael Paseornek will oversee production on behalf of thestudio.

The deal was negotiated by Peter Block, Jason Constantine and TomOrtenberg on behalf of Lions Gate. Jeffrey Light represented Zombie and TheFirm.

"With House Of 1000 Corpses, Rob Zombie has established himself as a filmmaker with apassionate artistic vision as well as an eye towards the pop culture zeitgeist,judging from the cult status the film is quickly achieving," Paseorneksaid in a statement.

TomOrtenberg, president of Lions Gate Film Releasing, added: "We are lookingforward to releasing the next chapter in the series wide next April, which willbe ideally positioned to outperform the original and hopefully will confirm it asa franchise for the company."
