Independent distributor MAC Releasing in association with Samy Boy Films has acquired all North American rights to Prey For Rock And Roll, which received its world premiere at Sundance.

The picture stars Gina Gershon as the singer of an all-girl punk band and is based on rock star Cheri Lovedog's autobiographical rock musical.

Lovedog wrote the screenplay with Robin Whitehouse and the picture marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed music supervisor Alex Steyermark, whose credits include Malcolm X and Hedwig And The Angry Inch.

Drea De Matteo (The Sopranos), Lori Petty (Tank Girl), Shelly Cole (The Gilmore Girls) and Marc Blucas (Sunshine State) co-star and a domestic release is planned for late summer/early autumn.

'Prey For Rock And Roll is a gritty, realistic and musically valid film about holding tight to your dream. Gina Gershon and all of the cast are fantastic. Alex Steyermark brings an incredible sense of authenticity to the film, and we are thrilled to be working with him," Baumgarten said in a statement.

MAC also has the Latin-themed romantic drama Washington Heights, which stars Tomas Milian, Manny Perez and Andrea Navedo and was written and directed by Alfredo de Villa. Washington Heights is set for a platform release beginning in New York on May 9.
