UPDATE: The DreamWorks Animation / PPI family film and Warner Bros / Legendary Pictures crime saga have both reached the milestone heading into the weekend.

Madagascar 3 opened on Wednesday in Japan on $1.3m from 302 sites and Sweden on $388,000 through Paramount Pictures International. It arrives in seven new markets over the weekend session. Debuts in the UK and Germany are still to come.

Warner Bros Pictures International’s The Dark Knight Rises had grossed $304.5m through Thursday (Aug 2) and is expected to dominate the session in its third weekend.

Fox International’s Ice Age 4 stands at $533.1m, while Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on $34.9m opens in Australia and New Zealand.

Prometheus arrives in Spain and has grossed $179.9m. Spain and Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days debuts in the UK and Italy day-and-date with North America.

Sony Pictures Releasing International’s sci-fi thriller reboot Total Recall opens day-and-date with North America in approximately 12 territories including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.

Universal Pictures International’s R-rated comedy Ted stands at $45.1m while Snow White And The Huntsman has amassed $212m.

Damsels In Distress arrives in Italy and That’s My Boy opens in eight including South Africa.
