France's Co-Production Office may have only picked up the film in the hours before Mifed, but it is selling strongly on adult animation film Mercano The Martian from Argentina.

The irreverent youth-oriented picture by Juan Antin denounces globalisation with a mixture of irony and black humour. It won the jury prize at last year's prestigious Annecy animation festival and scoped the audience award at the Sitges fantasy festival.

Having already been released in Argentina by Distribution Company, the film has been sold at Mifed to Japan's Uplink and France's ASC. Co-Production Office chief Philippe Bober, expects to sign off today on a contract for Russia and says that another seven deals are pending.

The film was produced by Argentinian university FUC and Antin's own company Malcriados.
