MGM has acquired Ken Kaufman and David Agosto's untitled action comedy pitch with Get Smart director Peter Segal attached to direct.

Segal will also produce with his longtime producing partner Michael Ewing and Andrew Lazar. Kaufman wrote The Missing and Space Cowboys while Agosto was his uncredited co-writer on Curious George.

Callahan Filmworks will team with Lazar's Mad Chance Productions on the project while MGM's executive vice president of production Cale Boyter and vice president of theatrical production Luke Ryan will oversee for the studio.

Boyter described the pitch as a 'character-driven action-comedy that's wrapped inside a big concept, and it harkens back to movies such as Lethal Weapon and 48 Hrs.'

Segal's directing credits include Anger Management, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

Kaufman is represented by Endeavor and by Keith Fleer of attorneys Loeb & Loeb. Agosto is also represented by Endeavor and Fleer. Segal is represented by CAA and by Lawrence Rose of attorneys Gang, Tyre, Ramer and Brown.

Lazar is represented by attorney David Weber of Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, while Ewing is represented by CAA and attorney Howard Abramson of Behr & Abramson.
