Mark Rucker's murder comedy Die Mommie Die and Geoff Sax's nineteenth century lovestory Tipping The Velvet took top honours at the Fifth Annual Miami Gay & Lesbian FilmFestival, which ran from April 25-May 4.

The best documentary award went to Even Benestad's profile of histransvestite father in All About My Father, while best short went to Frederic Moffet's documentary HardFat, about fetishisticweight gain.

The Special Jury Award for the First Time Feature in the Spirit ofIndependent Film was won by Laura Nix's Politics Of Fur, which chronicles the tempestuousrelationship between a music executive and a nihilistic punk.

The festivalcomprised screenings of more than 80 films from around the world and drew morethan 13,000 attendees. It closed with a screening of Brad Fraser's comedy-dramaLeaving Metropolis.
