Fox International enjoyed its fourth highest opening ofall time in Japan over the weekend with a $6.3m bow for Minority Report on 458 screens. The picture reached number twonationwide but topped the charts in nine key cities, studio executives saidtoday (Dec 9). The sci-fi thriller received a pre-release boost when directorSteven Spielberg and star Tom Cruise attended the Tokyo Film Festival in Octoberand looks set for continued success as the territory enters the lucrative Shogatsuholiday. Minority Report'sinternational cumulative score is now $184.7m, which combines with a $132mdomestic tally for a $316.7m worldwide running total.

Over the courseof its international run Minority Report has enjoyed a string of number one openings and records,with many territories registering it as the biggest opener for Cruise.Particularly outstanding figures include a $19.9m running total in France,where the picture opened on Oct 2: $10.6m in Italy, where it opened on Sept 27;and the UK, where Minority Report opened on Jul 4 and went on to make $31.7m as thehighest-grossing Tom Cruise picture ever. Further afield, Minority Report was Fox's biggest ever opener inTaiwan when it came out on Jun 29 and has gone on to amass $5.1m. It was alsothe distributor's biggest opener in South Korea after its Jul 26 opening,with a stunning $18.1m running total.
