Independent UK distributor Momentum Pictures had cause to celebrate this weekend as its long-running hit Lost In Translation became the company's first sterling eight figure earner.

After 15 weeks on release in the territory Sofia Coppola's Oscar winning film, which also picked up three BAFTA awards including best actor and best actress for Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, crossed the £10m mark.

With a total gross standing at $18.04m (£10.007m) the UK take represents a massive 40% of the North American total ($44.6m).

Momentum will release UK title Wondrous Oblivion this Friday (Apr 23). This is followed on April 30 by Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, another pick-up from Focus Features - the company behind Lost In Translation.

Eternal Sunshine stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet and was written by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) and will go out on 341 prints across the UK and Ireland.
