MSNBC Films has acquired North American television rights from Submarine Entertainment to Dana Nachman and Don Hardy's documentary Witch Hunt, which gets its US premiere at AFI FEST on November 2.

Witch Hunt chronicles the story of eight parents in Bakersfield, California, who were falsely accused and convicted of child molestation by an overzealous district attorney.

The film received its world premiere at Toronto in September and marks the first title from the directors' production company KTF Films.

MSNBC Films is planning a world premiere broadcast on MSNBC for the first quarter of 2009 following an Academy Award qualifying run in theatres.

Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment brokered the deal on behalf of the film-makers with MSNBC Films' Elise Warner and Scott Hooker.
