South African powerhouse Distant Horizon has picked up world sales rights to Fair Is Foul, an Indian version of Shakespearean classic Macbeth.

The film, which is targeting a launch at the Toronto festival, is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and stars Irfan Khan (star of The Warrior), screen goddess Tabu (pictured) and Pankaj Kapoor with Om Puri, and Naseeruddin Shah.

"The unique setting of Shakespeare's classic in the Bombay underworld has given us a distinctive film with universal appeal," said Anant Singh, Distant Horizon's CEO.

The film was produced by Bobby Bedi and Kaleidoscope Entertainment, which this week set up Cannes juror Aishwarya Rai to star in period epic The Rising.

Earlier this week Distant Horizon announced two remake deals My Father Is A Hero, a Hong Kong political-action picture directed in 1995 by Corey Yuen and Thai comedy Saving Private Tootsie.
