Comment on: Why the UK is missing out on co-production
A good piece by Simon and since, over the years, I have brought £25 million into the UK as a direct result of Franco-British co-productions, I am anxious to support any scheme that can improve our UK producers. As the UK representative at Eurimages between 1994-1996 I was able to obtain serious financial funding for a number of British co-productions and the sums we raised were in excess of the subscription paid by our Government. I and many members of PACT's Film Policy group have argued the case for re-joining Eurimages. In her response to my letter to Amanda Neville, the reason for not re-joining was "that membership would not represent a significant benefit for the UK". In my opinion, this is not true. Comment on: Tributes paid to producer Tim Hampton
Tim was a real professional who had learnt the business from the ground floor. He had the ability and sense to keep his crews happy and working hard and he was not afraid of being on the set checking how things were going. He will be missed and I am very sad to learn of his death. My real sympathies to his family. Timothy Burrill
I was the Unit Manager on "On the Fiddle". Check out the amazing cast on ImdB! Ah me, Happy Days. Timothy Burrill
Comment on: Annette Caulkin MBE dies aged 94
A very special lady who I first met when she worked for John Terry. I cannot believe that anyone could say anything uncomplimentary about her as she gave out such good advice and was kindness personified.
Congratulations must go to the producer, Thomas Langman. Without his skill, determination and Herculean efforts, this film would never have been made. Often, it seems, film critics and the press fail to acknowledge his achievement.
Comment on: Edinburgh to reinstate awards at 2012 festival
I may have missed the notice as to the dates of the 2012 Film Festival. I just hope - passionately - that they are at the same time as the Edinburgh Festival.
Comment on: The Future of Edinburgh?
It was madness to change the date to June. The Film Festival was always an integral part of the International Festival as a whole. In June it is too close to the end of Cannes and in August we would go as a part of our summer holiday. Timothy Burrill
Comment on: UK producers must lobby to rejoin Eurimages
I was the UK producers representative when we were members of Eurimages. I saw the benefit of our being members and the benefit to producers. The amount of money we received always exceeded our contribution. The other huge benefit was that it gave us an much greater opportunity to work with producers in Europe. I have always supported our re-joining. Timothy Burrill
Comment on: Europe calling
I represented British film producers while we were a member of Euimage in the nineties. The success rate of our applications was far greater than other Eurimage members and the return to our producers always exceeded the cost of our membership. The encouragement to work with European producers was self evident and enabled our producers to benefit from the many substantial government subsidies in other countires. Please let us re-join.
