  • Comment on: Industry pays tribute to Bingham Ray

I first met Bingham at EIFF way back in 1995. He was always the friendly face in a room. Will be sadly missed.

I can't wait to see The Snowman! It's a stunningly visual (and scary) book - and to have a master like Scorsese direct it is a very exciting prospect. A big thumbs up to Working Title.

  • Comment on: Leeds Film Festival to become qualifying event for Oscars

    S EVERETT's comment 24-Nov-2011 4:06 pm

Great news for Leeds - and it's a real credit to the festival's short film programmers that the quality of their selections has made it an Oscar shorts qualifying festival. Quality, indeed.

Hit those blue faced Smurfs! Do it. Do it. It's time they went down...

  • Comment on: The Future of Edinburgh?

    S EVERETT's comment 5-Jul-2011 11:48 am

Hadn't the £1.9 million from the UKFC already been spent in the 3 years that it was for (2008,9,10)? Isn't that a big part of the reason why this year's festival was so scaled down, because it no longer had that and other funding? I had a great time at this year's festival - even without the lovely red carpets. The Talent Lab was a real success, and there were sold out screenings (mainly evenings but when is the daytime ever full?) for films like Perfect Sense, Trollhunter, Weekender, Monica Velour, Our Day Will Come, Project Nim...to name just a few. And who knows -maybe it will go back to August, and looks like the prizes will return. Here's to the future of Edinburgh - it is a festival to cherish and support.

  • Comment on: Vaizey confirms BFC, regional screen agencies will stay

    S EVERETT's comment 15-Sep-2010 12:25 pm

I'm also worried at the lack of Regional input here. Is Screen England there on behalf of all the RSAs? As it feels a bit wrong (umm, very wrong) that there isn't some kind of representation from the actual regions themselves. What about Screen Yorkshire, E M Media and all the other regions? Shouldn't they be in the first round of consultations? They are not second class to London.

    S EVERETT's comment 23-Aug-2010 12:31 pm

I saw 2.37 when it screened in Cannes several years ago - it was a cracking film, very emotional. I always wondered what happened to the film afterwards, as people who had seen it loved it. I look forwards to his next project. Good luck mate!

  • Comment on: Facebook campaign, independent petition set up to ‘Save The UK Film Council’

    S EVERETT's comment 28-Jul-2010 12:52 pm

And a day on - the Facebook site now has 18,450 supporters, and the petition 11,357 signatures, and rising. Fight fight fight! Save the UKFC!

  • Comment on: UK producers very upbeat about UKFC's new three-year plan

    S EVERETT's comment 1-Apr-2010 9:05 pm

How on earth can Anonymous (above) call Harry Potter, Shaun of the Dead, Billy Elliot etc 'regrettable examples of UK films'? These are films that cinemagoers go to see - in droves!! The industry needs films like that, as well as films like Hunger, Fish Tank etc. And lots of us like many different types of films. They just have to be good!
