Young German actor Tom Schilling, who appeared opposite Max Riemelt in Dennis Gansel's Napola and turns 26 on Sunday (Feb 10), has been cast as the young Hitler in Urs Odermatt's Mein Kampf, based on the 1987 stage play farce of the same name by the late George Tabori.

The story of Mein Kampf sees Hitler down on his luck after being turned down for a place by the Vienna Arts Academy and then befriended by an elderly Jew Schlomo Herzl (played by veteran German actor Goetz George) in a hostel for homeless men.

The co-production by Berlin's Schiwago Film with Switzerland's Hugofilm and Austria's Dor Film will begin shooting in Vienna and Saxony's Zittau from April.
