The Best Director Award has been renamed as part of RiverRun’s 2011 edition.

The RiverRun International Film Festival is renaming one of its top jury prizes, the Best Director Award, as The Peter Brunette Award for Best Director, beginning with RiverRun’s 2011 edition (April 8-17).

The late Peter Brunette, esteemed film critic and scholar and a former contributor to Screen International, was one of the biggest supporters of the Winston-Salem, North Carolina, event. (He was a professor at nearby Wake Forest University before his death in June.)

“From the very beginning, Peter was a great friend to all of us and an integral part of our festival”, said Andrew Rodgers, Executive Director of RiverRun. “It seemed only fitting to name our top directing award after a man whose entire career was spent appreciating great films and filmmakers.”
