The New York Film Critics Circle has backed a Critics Choice programme to run from March 30-April 3 to mark the group's 75th anniversary.

The programme falls within the New Directors/New Films series jointly presented by the Museum Of Modern Art and the Film Society Of Lincoln Center.

The Critics Choice Program schedule includes Big Night, Frozen River, Metropolitan, In The Company Of Men and Half Nelson.

'These films prove how the New Directors / New Films series introduces important developments in film culture,' New York Film Critics Circle chair Armond White said. 'They are definitely choices the Critics Circle heartily endorses.

'In 2009, our goal is to recognise cinematic achievements throughout the entire year. We want to remind the public of the Circle's traditions and further the continuity of film appreciation, which is alive and well in New York all year round.'
