News on a new adaptation of Hedda Gabler, a new film about the Kray brothers, and more.

Aspect on board for Hedda Gabler

Aspect Film has taken on worldwide sales rights to Matthew John’s new period drama adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play Hedda Gabler, currently in post. Rita Ramnani [pictured] takes the lead role, with the cast also including Jon-Paul Gates, Samantha Hunt, David Butler and Francisco Ortiz. Aspect Film’s Managing Director, Hugh Edwards said, “Matthew John has tackled an Ibsen classic with aplomb. To do so as a debutant director and achieve what he has deserves credit. John has pushed the envelope and it will be interesting to see the reaction from both Ibsen purists and newcomers to the Hedda Gabler story alike.” The film was shot at Maunsel House in Somerset, owned by Sir Benjamin Slade, who also executive produces the film.

ScreenLaunch backs Beck

Australia-based sales and distribution company ScreenLaunch is financing American filmmaker Christina Beck’s US sex comedy Dig Me (with Diana Ward producing) and also repping Beck’s completed feature Perfection.

Jinga sells Para Elisa to Mexico

Jinga Films has sold Juanra Fernandez’s abduction horror Para Elisa to Star Castle for Mexico. The story is about a student held prisoner in a house of antique toys.

Carnaby rises with Krays deal

Carnaby International has sold Rise of The Krays to Jigsaw for Australia. The film is about the notorious English gangsters. Simon Phillips, producer for Press On Features, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Carnaby on delivering the shocking true story on the Kray Twins. Not many people have the clout to back such a ambitious production, but we’re expecting something incredibly ground breaking as the teams that produced Rise of The Footsolider, The Wee Man and White Collar Hooligan unite to realise Paul Tanter’s exciting vision for the film.”

Origin finds Truth

Origin Releasing has acquired distribution rights to The Truth About You, directed and produced by Andrea Fellers. The cast features Jon Robert Hall, Kasia Pilewicz and Aimee-Lynn Chadwick. The story is about friends playing a game on New Year’s Eve.
